This is a Brooklyn that is rapidly fading away: a vintage sliver of a former time where buildings were only a few stories high and the bustle was strictly industrial. However, there is a stillness here, an ambivalence to time — an homage to the neighborhood complete with shoe throwing in the background. What the image represents is naturally up to interpretation, but it ushered in a curiosity and enthusiasm for photographing tenets of urbanism all over the world.
